| What
exactly is a Lay Witness Weekend?
That’s
a question which the leaders of the Movement are invariably asked when
two of them meet with a Church Council that is
contemplating sponsoring such an event.
In
the past we have usually responded by explaining that a Lay Witness
Weekend is a series of meetings at which Christians from other Churches
tell the local congregation something of what it means to have Jesus as
Lord and Saviour. We then went through the programme for a typical Lay
Witness Weekend, explaining what is involved in each of the meetings.
Recently
we have adopted a somewhat different approach, because we now believe
that it is more important right
from the outset, that the Church leaders concentrate on the spiritual
dimension to the weekend.
So
we
now say that:
a Lay
Witness Week-end is a joint venture in faith between a visiting team of
Christians and the leaders of a host church. The two parties agreed to
pray, to plan and to prepare for the week-end in the belief that God the
Holy Spirit will use their efforts as a channel for His divine ministry.
If
a Church Council catches this vision of a Weekend mission, then we
believe that all the practical details will come together in response to
their prayers of faith.
